The hard moments we face and endure make us who we are:
Yesterday, I was witness to a very sad moment in my good friend's life: the frustration and loss of control that being ill in our health-care system creates, on top of the already dehabilitating physical health issues. As I sit and listen to her talk to doctor's offices and hear how impersonal and business only our doctor's offices have become, I am not far from crying.
The way things are in this country, in the "culture" are not right. I have felt this way since high school. The world I live in is too greedy and too selfish, and oh so worried about "offending" someone that we have all lost touch with EMPATHY.
One of my best friends, as close as a sister, is just trying to get answers about her tests. She has been getting the "run-around" by her doctors for the last month. Telling her she was "not urgent" while her counts were off the charts. How dare they do that!
Furthermore, as I find myself in doctor's offices I notice only business, no care. I watch the other patients barely get an appropriate hello and welcome. The nurses barely have a smile to share.
It's all business; It's all business. Is this how we want to be treated when we are ill?
